Dan Lin Reportedly Took Himself Out of The Running For DC Films Head Due To The Cancellation of 'Batgirl'
When Dan Lin dropped out of consideration to lead DC Films last month, it wasn’t hard to imagine why. There were all sorts of moves that parent company Warner Bros. Discovery was making, even to core brands like DC Comics, that would repulse anyone, especially your leading candidate. So what made Lin say enough was enough?
Turns out, aside from his attachment to his Rideback production company, it was the one that started it all: the cancellation of Batgirl (at least, according to an insider at Warner Bros. Discovery). Witnessing a mostly-finished product not only canceled, but also written off for tax purposes, Lin could feel the grim possibility of anything he would potentially create getting the same treatment. Things he put his heart into, getting tossed away like they’re nothing by suits upstairs. The same fate befell Scoob: Holiday Haunt, Final Space, and a handful of anime. Numerous other projects were also dropped, most pertinently those from DC, like Batman: Caped Crusader, Merry Little Batman, and new Constantine and Madame X series. Heck, Batgirl nearly made the abdicating incumbent quit sooner!

It’s a very high bar to reach. It is a very toxic circumstance, and it makes sense that Lin would choose to remain his own boss.
