… And they are all good!

The Rise of Skywalker came out just over four years ago in December of 2019, marking the end of the third trilogy of movies in the Star Wars Universe that fans had waited for since Episode III:  Revenge of the Sith was in theaters in 2005.  This sequel trilogy set up Daisy Ridley as Rey, the long-lost granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine, the spiritual heir to the Skywalker legacy.  Though the sequel trilogy ended by finishing the story of the Skywalkers, there has been talk that Rey’s saga will continue.

Daisy Ridley herself confirms this in an interview with Rebecca Rubin at Variety.  Ridley candidly expresses her excitement for the upcoming installment, telling Rubin that the “story is cool as s—-”.  The person behind the new story is Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, best known for her direction of Ms. Marvel.  Obaid-Chinoy will be the Star Wars franchise’s first woman director, but Ridley explains that her excitement comes from Obaid-Chinoy’s documentary work (Freedom Fighters, Sitara:  Let Girls Dream, A Life Too Short, I Am Somebody, etc.), saying that, “Her documentaries are amazing”.

Not returning to the new movie will be co-stars Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, or John Boyega.  When Rubin asked Ridley if it would be “weird” to make the film without them, she responded:

“No, because I don’t know what is what or who is who [in the new movie]. So much has happened for me [since the Skywalker saga]. I feel like a grown-up now. When I first started, I was, like, 20. I was the youngest on set. It took me the first two “Star Wars” films to feel worthy of being there. Now I’m in my 30s. The whole thing feels quite different. I’ve been able to work with other filmmakers, and hopefully, I’ve got better as a performer.“

And what else has Daisy Ridley been up to?  Most recently, she acts and is a producer for the film Sometimes I Think About Dying, playing the main character Fran.  She has also been in Kenneth Branaugh’s Murder on the Orient Express and The Marsh King’s Daughter.  There has been no timeline set for the production of the new Star Wars film.
