'Cowboy Bebop' Director To Reveal New Anime 'Lazarus' At San Diego Comic Con
Fans of legendary anime creator Shinichiro Watanabe are only weeks away from getting a glimpse at his latest series ‘Lazarus’ as it was revealed that Adult Swim will be unveiling a first look at San Diego Comic-Con during their “Night of New Screening” event, which will give fans a look at new Adult Swim projects including Rick and Morty: The Anime, Invincible Fight Girl, and Uzumaki.
What makes Lazarus so special is not only is it created by legendary director Shinichiro Watanabe, creator of anime like Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, but that the series is a collab between Watanabe and Chad Stahleski, director of the John Wick movies. Stahleski will be in charge of action choreography for the series, and considering his track record of creating and coordinating some of the greatest action sequences of modern cinema, it’s plenty of reason for fans to be even more excited. Finally, the series is being animated by MAPPA, the studio behind series such as Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Attack on Titan - The Final Season.

Adult Swim’s synopsis for Lazarus reads:
“The year is 2052—an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity prevails across the globe. The reason for this: mankind has been freed from sickness and pain. Nobel Prize winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug with no apparent drawbacks called Hapuna. Hapuna soon becomes ubiquitous… and essential. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes.
Three years later, the world has moved on. But Dr. Skinner has returned—this time, as a harbinger of doom. Skinner announces that Hapuna has a short half-life. Everyone who has taken it will die approximately three years later. Death is coming for this sinful world—and coming soon.
As a response to this threat, a special task force of 5 agents is gathered from across the world to save humanity from Skinner’s plan. This group is called “Lazarus.” Can they find Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out?”
As of now, there is no release window for Lazarus, though it is expected to wrap production sometime this year, perhaps Adult Swim will have release details at SDCC.
