Could A 'Dino Crisis' Remake Be In The Works? Capcom Looking To Bring Back More Old School IPs
In the wake of the 2024 Game Awards, one of the more notable announcements for fans of older titles was the reveal that Capcom is working on both a new installment to the Onimusha game series, the last installment was 7 years ago, as well as a sequel to the fan-beloved Okami, which released 16 years ago.
While the reveal of Okami 2 had little information attached, Onimusha: Way of the Sword was given a date of 2026, and both represent a turn by Capcom back to their older franchises and IP long left dormant by the company. These choices may have to do with Capcom realizing their library of past games have quite a lot of fans, as a poll conducted in February of 2024 was peppered with questions and answer options related to older IPs.
A word cloud feature in the poll also allowed respondents to see the top answers given by others, and Dino Crisis was notably one of the most selected. Dino Crisis has been inactive for years after the widely panned Dino Crisis 3 released back in 2003, but fan interest in the franchise has remained strong. Dino-themed games have also seen a slight resurgence in recent years, likely thanks in part to the rebooted Jurassic Park media franchise, but also because heavy-hitters like Dino Crisis have taken such a long break. Indicative of this return to dinosaur-themed games is the reveal of Turok: Origins at The Game Awards, another dino-killing game franchise from the same era as Dino Crisis. Capcom have also acknowledged Dino Crisis through a post on social media, noting the original game’s 25th anniversary this past summer.
So, is a return for the franchise in the cards? CultureSlate thinks so, and will be keeping an eye on all the latest gaming news regarding Capcom and other dino-killing games in 2025.
