CD Projekt Red Confirms That Their Upcoming Remake Of 'The Witcher' Will Be An Open-World Game
Geralt of Rivia will soon ride once more the lands of the Continent. This time, the land upon which he roams expands to a much larger world; and no, CD Projekt Red is not unveiling Geralt's fourth adventure.
During their Q3 2022 investor presentation, CD Projekt Red briefly announced The Witcher remake (previously codenamed Canis Majoris, which may hint at the game's plot or antagonist). The developer has begun the initial stages of its remake of the first game they created: The Witcher (2007). Remakes, like any venture in life, are hits, clunkers, or something that is just good enough. Fans, however, will have likely already set high expectations. The remake also has to contend with the fact that the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences nominated The Witcher for the 2007 Role Playing Game of the Year (Mass Effect won). The studio has only confirmed that the remake is going to be a "full-fledged" Witcher game. For now, only the developer knows whether the remake resembles its progenitor of the same name or The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. What has been confirmed, however, is that the remake will be open world.

The studio has also confirmed its software of choice for the project. They are using Unreal Engine 5 to render the environments which Geralt inhabits. Besides that, the studio has stated: "It's gonna be a while until we can share more details." That doesn't mean gamers cannot "see" the game; a scroll through Unreal Engine's website presents an imaginary sneak preview of what the game could look like.
Now that Geralt should be able to visit and wander through Vizima and its outskirts and interact with NPCs, the game may likely surpass the "good enough" rank.
