With streaming services becoming more commonplace, stand-up comedy is surging in popularity. One stand-up comic growing, as a result, is Bert Kreischer, a comic best known for “ripping his shirt off on stage” and “drinking Kool-Aid out of a sixteen-ounce Hydro Flask.” However, Kreisher will be stepping into new territory in the upcoming film Legendary studios film The Machine. The central plot of the film revolves around Kreisher’s character facing a “familial crisis and the arrival of his estranged father when the ghost of his booze-soaked past arrives.”

On top of this performance, Kreisler will be performing “an exclusive live pre-show event” on May 25th at 6 p.m. in Los Angeles at a location not yet declared. The pre-show, which will be simulcast across over one thousand theaters nationwide, will be followed by a preview screening of the film. Alongside Kreisher, The Machine stars talented actors such as Jessica Gabor of Shameless fame, Rita Bernard Shaw, and Mercedes de la Cruz from Bates Motel. Possibly the biggest and most recognizable name attached to the film is Mark Hamill. Hamill will be taking on the role of playing Kreisher’s estranged father. Despite Hamill stating “his regret” for being attached to the project on his Twitter page, it is all in jest and Hamill states his excitement for the project.

The Machine was influenced by Kreischer’s style of stand-up comedy. Thus, the comedian will have a bit of a home-field advantage. But diving into a full feature-length movie as opposed to a stand-up routine will present a new set of challenges. By adapting his comedic performances into a feature film and having Kevin Biegel (who is credited with creating Cougartown) and Scotty Landes (former writer of Workaholics) as co-writers, The Machine will have plenty of fans awaiting its release this upcoming year.
