Avatar: The Way of The Water made history in many ways. The movie was awarded the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. The sequel to the story of the Na’vi takes us back to Pandora after 13 years of waiting, and the result was amazing.

James Cameron (and the whole crew who worked on the movie) once again demonstrated how to create a masterpiece. Though many say the story of the franchise is nothing extraordinary, the visual effects alone create a magical experience in and out of theaters.

When Elizabeth Banks announced the award, the auditorium rose in celebration as the Visual Effects department of the film stood and walked toward the stage. Once there, Richard Baneham gave a speech thanking James Cameron (who was not at the ceremony for personal reasons) and the crew they worked with in both Los Angeles and New Zealand. Jon Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon, and Daniel Barret received each a statue to commemorate their achievements in the movie.

It was no surprise, in the end, that Avatar won in this category; after all, each scene is capable of transporting the audience into a new world.

The sequel to Avatar: The Way of the Water is already in the works, set to release in 2024. With all the success this franchise has achieved, the expectations are incredibly high, but James Cameron and his crew know how to create outstanding work. Is only a matter of time until we are impressed again with the beauty of Pandora and Jake Sully’s quest to keep his family safe.
