Googly Eyed Tie Worn by James Hong At The Oscars In Honor of ‘Everything, Everywhere, All At Once’
It’s the inspirational message we’ve all been told since childhood: never give up. You can always achieve your dreams. That saying came true for 94-year-old James Hong recently. After seven decades in acting, he finally attended the Oscars, and his bowtie was a nod to why he could finally attend.
The Googly eyes he placed on it were a reference to the award-winning movie he was in, Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, in which the character of Waymond (Ke Huy Quan) placed googly eyes on everything. Waymond’s wife, Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh), who was initially annoyed by this habit, eventually embraces the habit and places one of the eyes on her forehead.

Host Jimmy Kimmel took a second to mention Hong. “James is a legend, James has been in 650 movies and TV shows, and he didn’t even start acting professionally until he was 25 years old. Before that, he was a civil engineer who helped design the road system here in Los Angeles.”
“It’s a great pleasure to be here, the first time to be at the Academy Awards. Here I am, after 70 years, I’m here. Actually, I’m 94... It shows if you wait long enough, you’ll make it,” Hong said in an interview. “This movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once, gave me the chance to be here today.”
