Can James Cameron's 'Avatar' Franchise Cut Costs As More Movies Release?
James Cameron is a respected filmmaker known for creating award-winning films and setting many records through their successes. These records are primarily due to his innovative storytelling and visuals that accompany these stories.
Cameron keeps finding support for these epic tales because each one is more successful than the last. From a business perspective, this should make Cameron a sure source of income and success for Hollywood studios; however, James Cameron's ability to tell an innovative seems to be accompanied by an ever-increasing price tag.

Cameron's most successful films reveal the escalating increase in the cost of his storytelling. Terminator 2: Judgement Day had a budget of $100 million. Titanic later surpassed that with a $200 million budget. Both Avatar films have the title of "most expensive film ever made." Avatar: The Way of the Water has an estimated budget of $460 million.
Given the complexities and uniqueness of each story, it becomes easy to understand the increasing expense of each movie. Moreover, Cameron has yet to receive an answer of "no" because his films keep being successful at the box office, earning well over their budget back to the studio. His latest Avatar sequel is projected to more than break even.
The successful director also revealed his prudent and pragmatic side while discussing the future of the Avatar franchise as he claims future installments with have an "economy of scale over the greater arc." Cameron's statement to GQ indicates that the infrastructure needed to produce these films may already be primarily in place.
Capitalizing on the created infrastructure could mitigate the rising costs of film production as the studio would be reusing or repurposing some proprietary creations to produce future films. Indeed, the director would lower production costs and allow Cameron to tell more compelling and exciting stories.
