Buzz continues to mount for the first film of Marvel Studio’s Phase Five: Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. The film is on track to hit its projected debut box office total of $120 million. The third installment in the Ant-Man franchise opens on February 17 and is to be in line with the top three openings of Presidents Day weekend, following Marvel’s Black Panther from 2018 and Deadpool

This prompts entertainment insiders to wonder why this film’s projections aren’t as tiny as the film’s lead superheroes. Most are pointing to the introduction of Jonathan Major’s portrayal of the infamous time war-lord, Kang the Conqueror, whom audiences were first introduced to in the Disney+/Marvel series Loki as He Who Remains. Majors continues to receive acclaim for his performances, most recently at the Sundance Film Festival as an amateur bodybuilder in Magazine Dreams

Amongst other Marvel Studios franchises, Ant-Man, in 2015, earned $180.2 million domestically. The 2015 sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp made $216.6 million, and the second film opened between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame

The threequel, directed by Peyton Reed, will begin being viewed by the press starting on February 6. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens on February 17, 2023.
