'The Batman Part II' Will Be Coming In 2025 But Will Be Set Outside Of The New DCU
Matt Reeves' The Batman: Part II will debut in theatres on October 3, 2025 with Robert Pattinson set to return as the billionaire playboy turned dark knight. However, all other details about the film, such as the plot, are under lock and key.
James Gunn recently announced several upcoming projects for the rebuilt DC Universe but noted how the Matt Reeves film would be under the moniker of “DC Elseworlds.” DC Comics have used the “Elseworlds” distinction in the past to allow for several storylines as long as they do not contradict the main canon.

In addition, Gunn announced that Todd Philips’ Joker: Folie à Deux, which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, will reside within the DC Elseworlds along with the animated series Teen Titans Go! Of note, the particular animated series have explored the multiverse storyline on multiple occasions with its “Space House” arc, and the direct-to-video features Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse. In fact, it seems the animated series aimed at children, like Batwheels and My Adventures With Superman, will not be in the core DC Universe.
Matt Reeves sat down with Collider a few weeks ago and explained how he would be discussing his “BatVerse” with Gunn:
“...we don't want to be crashing into each other. We want to support each other. I'm super excited. I'm really excited to hear about what they're doing and to be working with them. It's going to be cool.”
The Batman has earned $770 million worldwide and is currently streaming on HBO Max.
