The empire started by Tolkien and made famous by Peter Jackson stands strong as a second season of The Rings of Power is added to the journey. Also, fans have been active in the X (formerly Twitter) forum discussing character’s relationships in the series and the reveal of Sauron’s alter-ego. According to TheOneRing.net, when Amazon Prime “let loose the heralded name of Sauron’s alter-ego”, fans were on the edge of their seats.

In an Empire magazine article, pictures of Galadriel admiring her ring of power Nenya and confirmation of Charlie Vickers playing the man Sauron will disguise himself as, Annatar. This new identity can speed up Sauron’s quest to gain the rings of power to control all of Middle Earth.

With Sauron continuing his mission as Annatar, the relationship between actors Charlie Vickers and Charles Edwards is something fans and producers of The Rings of Power are “so proud of”. This relationship will be “the heart” of the second season. Fans on X have expressed their excitement from singing their praises about the article in Empire magazine to “finally” having confirmation that “the Rings of Power will indeed be using the name Annatar for Sauron in season two!”

The inclusion of another identity for an already well-established character is a risky move, but an alter-ego’s further entanglement with Galadriel has the potential to create opportunities for greater character development for both Galadriel and Sauron (or Annatar, or both). Diving deeper into The Rings of Power lore will be a journey in of itself thanks to the help of dedicated fans and Empire magazine articles giving fans new bits of information as the second season premieres.
