Amazon Has Ordered A Live-Action’ Blade Runner’ Series From EP Ridley Scott
With Amazon already having a book-originating fantasy film IP as a television series, it seems they’ve now set their sights on doing the same for sci-fi. The company has announced it ordered a new live-action limited series, Blade Runner 2099, the next installment of the Blade Runner franchise, for Prime Video.

The very Marvel-sounding series has been in development since February and has original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott on as an executive producer. Silka Luisa will serve as showrunner, while Michael Green, who co-wrote 2017’s Blade Runner 2049, will serve as a non-writing EP.
One might wonder why “live-action” had to be specified about a franchise with two live-action films. That is because there are two animated projects within the franchise. The first was Blade Runner Black Out 2022, one of three prequel short films prior to 2049’s release. It premiered on Crunchyroll in September 2017. The second was Blade Runner: Black Lotus, a 13-episode anime series, a co-production between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim that aired from November 2021 until this past February and has yet to be renewed for a second season.
As 2099 has just been ordered, no casting has been made, so it remains to be seen if anyone previously seen will survive the 50 years to the new setting.
