Alan Wake 2 debuted on PlayStation 5, PC, and Microsoft’s Xbox X and S on October 27, and developer Remedy Entertainment announced a pre-launch update: New Game+ will land soon after the game’s debut. The New Game+ mode will permit players’ upgrades and weapons, along with a new Nightmare difficulty level with an “alternative narrative“ including a different manuscript and video content. Remedy announced the new content will arrive soon after the game's release.

Since the 2010 cult classic game was released, fans have been eager to learn the rest of the story for writer Alan Wake. The narrative of the sequel will lean more into the survival horror genre and will feature a second playable character in the story.

As far as difficulty levels regarding combat for the sequel, there will be three difficulty levels: Story, Normal, and Hard. On the Story level, the combat will not challenge the gamer.

At the Normal difficulty level, the combat will be challenging, requiring the player to use items and conserve assets to stay alive. The narrative will maintain the format of solving mysteries with a Hard difficulty level, making gameplay “significantly challenging” and “familiarity with the game mechanics…essential for survival,” per Remedy.

Alan Wake 2 releases on October 27.
