Brace yourselves: behind-the-scenes information is coming. It is reported that the reason director and showrunner Miguel Sapochnik has left Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is that he wasn’t happy with how his wife, Alexis Raben, was treated during the production of the show.

When he originally left the show in August, he said “Working within the Thrones universe for the past few years has been an honor and a privilege, especially spending the last two with the amazing cast and crew of House of the Dragon… I am so proud of what we accomplished with Season 1 and overjoyed by the enthusiastic reaction of our viewers. It was incredibly tough to decide to move on, but I know that it is the right choice for me, personally and professionally.” Now the truth has been revealed, and the reason for his departure seemed more personal rather than professional.

Raben, who both played Talya, and was one of the show’s producers was unable to join the production team led by Sapochnik and Ryan Condal, but HBO turned her down due to what they described as a lack of experience. After negotiations got heated and a mediator stepped in, Sapochnik eventually stepped down, without initially revealing the true reason for his departure.

Condal will be the only showrunner for season 2, while Alan Taylor, who directed many episodes of Game of Thrones, will join as both producer and director. Season 2 is expected to be launched sometime in 2024.
