A Remake Of A Remake, That's Where Hollywood Is: Paramount Rebooting 'The Longest Yard'
With Hollywood making remake, after remake after remake, audiences have been wondering what they’re going to do after they’re out of good movies to remake. As it turns out, the answer is to remake the remakes. Remake-ception so to say. The first film up for the remake of a remake treatment is a rather interesting choice - The Longest Yard.
The original 1974 film starring Burt Reynolds, and its 2005 remake starring Adam Sandler, are both about a fictional former NFL quarterback named Paul “Wrecking” Crew who winds up in jail after causing a high-speed chase with police and accepts a deal to play an exhibition game of football where he leads a team made up of prisoners to play a team of prison guards. Both are considered sports/prison comedies, with the original scoring 75% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and 7.1 on IMDb, with the remake scoring 62% and 6.4 respectively. Both are owned by Paramount.
Rodney Barnes, who wrote and was an executive producer on Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is attached as the lead writer on the show. No release date has been set.
