Star Trek: Lower Decks will air its final season this month, starting on October 24. Lower Decks has brought a unique sense of humor to the Star Trek universe, with critics comparing it to other animated adult series like Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites. The series premiered in 2020, and there have been four seasons so far. The cast has already started branching out to other Star Trek projects, like Tawny Newsome (Mariner) writing for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - as well as an unnamed future Star Trek comedy - and both her and Jack Quaid (Boimler) guest starring in a full crossover episode with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Audiences are thrilled to see the Starfleet crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos back in action for ten final episodes. Three trailers have come out for this fifth and final season of Lower Decks, totaling almost 6 minutes with a mix of flashbacks and new action. Clips from these trailers include Rutherford hugging his robot counterpart, Tendi in disguise teaming up with a ship full of Orion pirates to steal someone's treasure, and even a second Cerritos with Mariner at the helm. Of course, it wouldn't be Lower Decks without guest stars from previous Star Trek, and the first big reveal is the return of Garrett Wang as Harry Kim from Star Trek: Voyager, who will have multiple appearances in the final episodes of Lower Decks

While this season is officially the last of Lower Decks, creator Mike McMahan has stated that he doesn't want this to be the end of the crew's adventures onboard the Cerritos. Earlier this year, McMahan commented: “The ending of season 5, it is the ending of a chapter that I knew I wanted to do. There are things that happen in it… that are sort of setting up spinoffs and setting up backdoor pilots.” While we'd love to see these characters get more screen time, it's more likely that their stories will continue in novels or comics, if anything. One can always hope, though!

Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 will premiere on Paramount+ on October 24 with two episodes, then one episode weekly through December 19.
