Disney’s take on Doctor Who was fairly well-received and has left fans looking forward to more. Fortunately, there may be more of Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday on the way beyond the second season. A third season is reportedly in the works and is nearing the filming stage! On The Graham Norton Show, Gatwa commented on the upcoming schedule for Doctor Who.

The actor stated (via Nerdist), “It is all going well. We did the second series this year, the Christmas special is coming up, and we are filming a third series next year.” Russell T Davies, the showrunner of the series, had previously stated that a third-season renewal announcement would come after the second season’s release. There is no official word confirming Gatwa’s comment either, so a solid timeline is unclear at the moment.

The first season to solely focus on the Fifteenth Doctor is technically the fourteenth series, though it is branded as season one. The Fifteenth Doctor is particularly unique, as he was split from the Fourteenth Doctor, resulting in two alien Time Lords instead of one who replaces the other. Partnered with his companion, Ruby Sunday, the pair goes on wild adventures with nail-biting stakes and the energy of previous Doctor Who seasons while doing its own thing. There are eight episodes plus a prequel episode in total, all of which are available to stream on Disney+.

The wait for new content won’t be long, as a Christmas special is on the way. While specific details are slim, it is scheduled to come out on December 25, 2024. The second season is also set to have eight episodes, as well as the Christmas Special, though a premiere date has not been named.
