A New Teaser For 'Star Wars Outlaws' Was Released During Summer Game Fest
Originally announced in 2020, a new game Star Wars Outlaws resurfaced at the Summer Game Fest with a new teaser trailer. The game is set in the year between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi and follows the story of a rookie scoundrel named Kay Vess and her animal companion Nix as they explore an open-world galaxy looking to pull off heists.
The new teaser shows gameplay glimpses of Vess riding on the galaxy’s equivalent of a motorcycle, joining sordid card games, flying ships, shooting Stormtroopers, and interacting with Jabba the Hutt. In addition to the gunfights, the game looks to include melee elements and intense rock climbing. The teaser promised more gameplay would be revealed at the Ubisoft Forward conference on Monday, June 10. Another core gameplay element is forming alliances with certain crime syndicates to access exclusive items. Naturally, this comes at the cost of sacrificing other exclusive items.

According to creative director Julian Gerighty, “What we wanted do is make [Vess] incredibly relatable in the sense that she isn’t a fully developed scoundrel; she doesn’t have the confidence or the cool of a Han Solo, she’s learning the ropes. She’s faking it until she makes it. So it doesn’t come from a place of 100 percent confidence. It comes from a place of taking the risk.”
Vess’ voice actor Humberly Gonzalez added, “Finding your way through the game — who you choose to make friends with, who you choose to betray — you have control over the storyline. It was fun for me to see how each choice leads us to a different route, different dialogue, different relationships, [and] develop different syndicates that will be on your side. To me, that's a very exciting part of the game, and to have it all placed in the trilogy in an open-world setting... It's an adventure. So lean into the adventure." Star Wars Outlaws releases on August 30 for PC, PS5, and Xbox series X|S. Check out the teaser below.
