Spooky season is coming earlier this year! News came out that English actor Theo James, better known for his role in the Divergent movie trilogy and more recently The White Lotus, has been cast in an exciting project. The Monkey, originally a short story by famous horror author Stephen King, will be adapted to the silver screen with James as the lead character per Deadline.

Deadline also mentions that one of the producers chosen for the movie is none other than James Wan. Wan has made his name with horror/suspense movies/franchises like Saw and The Conjuring. He was also chosen and directed blockbusters like one of the Fast & Furious movies, Furious 7, and 2018’s Aquaman. Wan has an edge with this specific type of movie, and The Monkey may very well highlight his strengths and know-how in said genre.

Empire gives us a basic structure of what the film may eventually be:

“When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths start occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone close to them”.

Wan and James will have an important backer for this project. Black Bear Pictures, known for its role in managing, producing, financing, and distributing, will support the project as this could become another hit horror movie. The film will have other important names as well, like Osgood “Oz” Perkins, who is, according to Deadline, a specialist in this type of content. Oz will also direct it, having Michael Clear, Jason Cloth, and Dave Caplan alongside Wan as producers.

More details will likely come out in the next few months with the rest of the casting, and an official release date.
