The entire cast of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings is incredibly solid. Everybody is perfectly cast in their roles, and each of them feels like a character, not an actor portraying a character. It’s no different for British actor Hugo Weaving, who brilliantly portrayed the elf lord Elrond. He reprised his role in the Hobbit trilogy a decade later.

However, we won’t be seeing him returning to Middle Earth again.

While there are many upcoming Lord of the Rings projects, Weaving has made it clear that he has no interest in being part of them. In an interview with GamesRadar+, Weaving stated:

“I’ve had enough of Middle-earth. I don’t imagine anyone would ask me to do it again."

The main drive behind the decision stems from the fact that he’s getting older, and Elrond is an immortal elf. He continued:

“I was aware I was older before. And shooting stuff on The Hobbit was starting to get slightly silly. I loved being a part of that franchise, but I have absolutely no plans or desires to be a part of it anymore.”

While it’s sad that such a great actor doesn’t want to be part of Middle Earth anymore, his reasons do make sense. Whatever else, we have a set of excellent performances from the original films, and nothing can change that.
