Idris Elba Rumored To Be Next 'James Bond' Once Again

Idris Elba as Luther

Idris Elba is once again being eyed as the next James Bond, according to reports. Earlier this year Barbara Broccoli, the producer for the Bond franchise, confirmed that Idris was in the running. She had said at the time, "Well, we know Idris, we're friends with him, and he's a magnificent actor... And you know, it's been part of the conversation, but it's always difficult to have the conversation when you have someone in the seat." Now that Daniel Craig has left the franchise, after the release of No Time To Die, the hunt for a new 007 has started. And Idris Elba has been looked at for the role before, so it makes sense his name would come up again.

Elba was originally looked at for the role of an antagonist in the franchise. However, fans have called for his casting as the infamous super spy instead. Elba does have some mixed feelings about the role himself saying that he wanted to be James Bond, but not the black James bond. He's quoted as saying, "If someone said to me 'Do you want to play the next James Bond?', I'd be like, Yeah! that's fascinating to me. But it's not something I've expressed, like, 'Yeah, I wanna be the next black James Bond." He went on to add, "You just get disheartened when you get people from a generational point of view going, ‘It can’t be.’ And it really turns out to be the color of my skin... And then if I get it and it didn’t work, or it did work, would it be because of the color of my skin? That’s a difficult position to put myself into when I don’t need to." So for now it seems as if his becoming 007 is still just a rumor. But for fans of the super-spy who want to see Elba in the role, be excited, it could be happening.
