If you have recently watched the cinematic trailer for Star Wars: Eclipse and found yourself intrigued by the concept, then this news may sour your day a little bit. It turns out the game is not anywhere close to release. Reports are saying that it will drop in 2027 or 2028 at the earliest. What is the reason for such a delay for a game that already has a teaser trailer? Well, it appears that the studio Quantic Dream is having a tough time filling positions in order to begin production on the game. The studio had posted 60 openings just before the holidays. In the following months that number has jumped to 67.

It is understandable that fans are upset by this news. A cinematic trailer usually means the game is in active development. In this case, the reel showed Star Wars staples such as Courscant, Yoda, space battles, and two Jedi about to jump into battle with their lightsabers ignited. Perhaps the news report is premature and Quantic Dream is just announcing a later release date in order to have all their business organized before something becomes more permanent down the line. We will find out more as the positions begin to fill over at Quantic Dream. It will be a dream come true for many to be able to work on a Star Wars game.

The delay is disappointing because Eclipse is supposed to be set during the High Republic, which is an era that is gaining popularity among fans and many want to see more content created about the time period. On the other hand, fans have created a social media firestorm after reports of years of toxic environment at Quantic Dream. The hashtag #BlackoutStarWarsEclipse has been making the rounds on Twitter and other platforms.

While Star Wars has almost exclusively released games through Electronic Arts (EA) in the past, they have been slowly branching out to other studios to keep things churning and bringing out new content. EA is dropping the sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, while TT Games has been commissioned to bring LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga to life. That game is set for release on April 5th with just under a month to go until release.

Zynga is also working on a battle arena-style game for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. EA also has a bunch of potential games in the pipeline which will be of varying genres and styles and will release within the time window leading up to Eclipse. While that certainly will ease minds, a five or six-year wait is still a long time for fans to maintain interest. However, Star Wars seems to be in good hands with many cool concepts for games resting on the backburner.

Fans will continue to both hold the studio accountable for their environment and their work over the next few years. If EA continues to deliver and Ubisoft remains in fans’ good grace, Quantic Dream will have big shoes to fill when they finally do deliver on Star Wars: Eclipse. The High Republic era has an endless array of story potential and fans are beginning to see that in live-action and in the future. Hopefully, the games will continue to add to that depth.

For now, fans can turn to old classics, and exciting new adventures with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and wait for announcements regarding any updates to Jedi: Fallen Order 2. Hopefully, things will change and maybe Eclipse will come to fruition sooner rather than later. Even if that never comes to be, if the game delivers the immersive experience it promises, fans will surely forgive the delay.
