Important Lessons You Can Learn About Job Security From C-3PO
It is a tough world out there, and jobs are even tougher. Between mismanagement, bad bosses, and hectic work conditions, it can be hard to find a job worth sticking with. If it is any form of consolation, fictional characters haven’t had the best run with jobs either. The Jedi Order fell, the Emperor wasn’t emperor forever, stormtroopers have a terrible mortality rate, and the Empire probably doesn’t even have dental. However, there is one character who consistently maintained work, and that character is a droid named C-3PO. 3PO is definitely a droid who knows a thing or two about job security, and here are some of the best lessons people could learn from him.
1. Time Matters
How long someone has been at a job matters. A person who has stayed with a job for several years can even have more knowledge about the job than the boss. It makes that person invaluable for their knowledge and experience, and no one has been in a job longer than 3PO. 3PO has been there since the beginning. He was built by Anakin in The Phantom Menace, and he has been working consistently ever since. Whether you count The Phantom Menace or A New Hope as the first Star Wars story, C-3PO has been there. He is one of the only characters to appear in all nine films, and he has worked in every one. Serving as a translator, fighter, guide, and even the occasional diplomatic work, he has done it all. Staying with a job for a while can have some major perks, like avoiding death from Darth Vader.

2. Learning Another Language Pays Off
C-3PO is fluent in over 6 million forms of communication, and that makes him an asset wherever he goes. From Hoth to Mustafar and Tatooine to Coruscant, a translator can always help make things easier. In a sci-fi world like Star Wars, it is imperative to be able to communicate effectively with its citizens. Clear communication can help broker deals and stop wars, and 3PO has been an invaluable translator for almost everyone he has worked with. It can give you some god-like qualities too.
3. You Don’t Need All The Information
There are some who think that they need to know every minor detail about a job to make sure it gets done, but that is not the case. C-3PO demonstrates this completely. Did Luke tell 3PO his plan in Return of the Jedi? No, and he didn’t need to. 3PO was given a job, and he did it splendidly. Did 3PO need to know why Rey, Poe, and Fin were looking for an ancient assassin? No. All he needed to do was follow and help with the translation. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, and it can keep employees safe and employed.
4. Don’t Be Afraid To Upgrade
Those who don’t change with the times will be left behind. C-3PO understands this. In any job (or any part of life) there will be changes both small and large. It is incredibly important to update, upgrade, and change with the times. Some jobs will require some changes to make them work. 3PO acts as a protocol droid most of the time, but he will strap his head on a battle droid body and get his hands dirty if the job calls for it. He knows the importance of adapting to the scenario to finish the job.
5. You Need A Friend In Someone
Friends are important in this world. Everyone needs someone they can confide in, travel with, and lean on. Perhaps, no one knows this better than C-3PO. He may be fluent in over 6 million forms of communication, but of all the species in the galaxy R2-D2 is the one he talks to the most. C-3PO and R2-D2 have had each other’s backs through thick and thin. They have helped each other out of more scraps than either of them could count (Maybe not since they are robots). Neither of them would have made it extremely far without the other one. They may bicker, argue, and question their friendship, but at the end of the day, they are there for the other one. When they are together, no job is safe.
