Ranking The Current Live-Action Portrayals Of 'Batman'
Adam West is easily one of the most recognizable Batmans, thanks to the whimsy and campy nature of his character. While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, his character provides a lighter option for children or viewers who simply aren’t a fan of dark violence.

6. Ben Affleck (2010s, 2020s)
I genuinely believe that Ben Affleck gets too much hate for his Batman. I loved the little bit of content we got, and I was disappointed to learn that James Gunn has decided to go a different direction. There isn’t much that can be said about his portrayal because he was always surrounded by other fully developed characters.
5. George Clooney (1990s)
George Clooney’s Batman is probably the most hated in history. This is my hot take, but I love Batman and Robin. The film is the perfect blend of campy and darkness which gave fans another completely new take on the caped crusader. I would love to see George Clooney’s Batman return at some point in the DCEU.
4. Val Kilmer (1990s)
Val Kilmer is one of the only actors on this list who could hold his own while sharing the screen with Tommy Lee Jone’s Two-Face and Jim Carrey’s Riddler. While Kilmer still falls into the darker side of Batman portrayals, he had an air of humor that worked perfectly with the villains he was paired with.
3. Christian Bale (2000s, 2010s)
Christian Bale was an amazing Batman, and I can’t think of a single person that would disagree with this statement. He brought us the perfect Batman voice and arguably the most amazing Joker-Batman duo to date. Bale’s Batman is currently the only fully developed live-action iteration we have of the character, which also adds to why it is one of the best.
2. Michael Keaton (1980s, 1990s, 2020s)
Michael Keaton has been my favorite Batman since I was a child. He brought charm along with darkness to the character, which created a live-action Batman that was closer to the Batman featured in Batman: The Animated Series, which most millennials grew up with. The addition of his Batman to The Flash is honestly what made me want to see the film so badly!
1. Robert Pattinson (2020s)
I have a feeling that this is a hot take, but Robert Pattinson is easily the best live-action Batman to date. Pattinson brought humility to the character, which is something that had been lacking in all other live-action iterations. His character explored more of the psychological trauma that Bruce Wayne experienced and how that impacted every single facet of his life. I cannot wait to see how he further develops the character in The Batman sequel.
The live-action Batman movies are available to stream on Max, and The Flash is now in theaters.
