5 Things You Didn’t Know About The Sith
One of the most underrated, underutilized, and mysterious characters in all of Star Wars are the Sith. While more is revealed about the Sith Order in the books and video games, most of the information has not been featured in any live-action or animated content. Thanks to the upcoming Disney+ show The Acolyte, fans are finally going to get some real Sith content. To help tide us over until the premiere, let's take a look at five interesting facts about the Sith.
5. The Jedi Temple On Coruscant
This is probably one of the lesser-known facts on this list. Every Star Wars fan knows of the Jedi Temple located on Coruscant since it is a prominent location in the prequel trilogy. What you may not have known is that the Jedi temple is built on top of an old Sith Shrine. This is meant to symbolize the Jedi triumphing over the Sith. This, unfortunately, backfired as Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine) knew about the shrine and its dark powers, which aided in his destruction of the Jedi Order. He then took over the temple and turned it into his palace, thus symbolizing his triumph over the Jedi.

4. The Sith Order’s Code
The Jedi Code is known to most fans since it is discussed throughout the live-action content. Many fans, myself included, would argue that this code is one of the many things that helped the fall of the Jedi Order. The Sith Code has only been mentioned in animated content and is in direct contrast to the Jedi Code. This code focuses on passion, strength, and power rather than peace, knowledge, and harmony.
3. Only Four
One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Sith is that all dark force wielders are given the label of Sith. This is untrue, and as of the writing of this article, there are currently only four canon characters that officially hold the title of Sith that are physically seen. (Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, Darth Tyranus, and Darth Vader). Characters such as Kylo Ren, Asajj Ventress, and General Grievous are not Sith and would instead be considered dark force wielders or possibly Sith apprentices. I’m hoping that The Acolyte will add to our list of canonical Sith.
2. The Red Lightsabers
We know that kyber crystals give lightsabers their color and that younglings travel to the planet Ilum to collect their crystal and later construct their lightsabers. Something that has been kept from most content, though, is how Sith and Dark Jedi get red kyber crystals. This was finally answered in episode 9, Aau’s Song in Star Wars: Visions season 2. In the episode, it is revealed that the dark side of the force has corrupted entire caves of kyber crystals, turning them blood red, and only some force wielders can purify them, thus turning them back into their normal colors. Unfortunately, this isn’t a part of Star Wars canon, but it is still our first look at a possible explanation for the unique kyber coloring.
1. The Sith’s Origins
In Star Wars Legends, the Sith and their origins are thoroughly explained, but unfortunately, in the current canon, the Sith and their origins are shrouded mostly in mystery. What we do know is that the Sith are force-wielders that turned to the dark side because they felt that this was where the true strength of the force resided. This is shown through Anakin being deceived into believing that the dark side of the force is strong enough to cheat death and save the love of his life. The Sith and the Jedi fought in what is known as the Hundred-Year Darkness, and by the end of it, the Sith Order had been fully created.
The Acolyte is set to premiere on Disney+ next year.
