Dune: Part One was a masterpiece that was released back in 2021. A perfect combination of cinematic images, musical brilliance, and engaging storytelling earned it a vast number of Oscars. It has the potential to be the next best space epic as Dune: Part Two brings the first Dune novel’s movie adaptation to a conclusion. It was directed by Denis Villeneuve and starred Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson. Yet with how amazing Dune: Part One was, fans eagerly anticipate Dune: Part Two. However, what are some exciting things we can expect out of Dune: Part Two? Well, here are five things to expect and get you excited for it!

 5. Exciting New Characters

In Dune: Part One you had some wonderful characters played by great actors such as Duncan Idaho played by Jason Mamoa and Duke Leto played by Oscar Isaac, but both of those characters have died. In their place will come exciting new characters played by some wonderful actors as well. One you can expect is Princess Irulan played by Florence Pugh. This character will show up in later Dune movies if they continue to make more. She is the daughter of the emperor and an antagonist to Paul Atreides. How much of a part she must play in the story will be interesting to find out.

You will also have Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen played by Austin Butler. He will be the main antagonist next to the emperor and Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. Feyd-Rautha will add a great dimension of horror and excitement to Dune as he ends up facing toe to toe with Paul Maud’Dib Atreides at the end of Dune: Part Two. While he will be the muscle used by Emperor Shaddam IV in Dune: Part Two, the emperor will be played by Christopher Walken and Walken will do a fantastic job in giving the arrogant, powerful, terrorizing force to the emperor as Paul finally faces him at the end.

4. Astounding Visual Effects

In Dune: Part One, one of the elements that made the movie stand out among others was its ability to create gorgeous visuals of the planets, sights, and sounds of the Dune universe. To really get the full effect of the grand design in Frank Herbert’s mind when writing the Dune novels, the views in the movie had to be astounding, and in Dune: Part One they were just that. If the trailer was any indication, you can fully expect to see more of that in Dune: Part Two as the story comes to an epic conclusion.

3. Epic Storytelling

Dune: Part One tells an epic story full of intrigue and suspense, fueled by exciting conflict and mystery. You can expect more of that in Dune: Part Two. For anyone who has read the book, it will come as no surprise when the grand master of the Harkonnen takeover was not the Baron but someone more powerful. It was for reasons far larger than spice although the spice, as fuel for galactic travel, is a prime resource that controls more than just the royal houses. All of this will come to a head and be told fantastically as the epic story reaches its conclusion (as far as we can tell).

Little needs to be said about the epic moment that will take place when Paul Maud’Dib Atreides rides a sandworm as a Fremen for the first time and finally into Arrakeen. We also get to delve deeper into the Bene Gesserit and their connection with the Fremen on Arrakis. All these things are no doubt going to be told epically just like in Dune: Part One.

2. Romance

In the middle of the epic action and intrigue, there is a very human side to the story that makes it relatable. It was alluded to in the trailer and the last movie but will finally come to a head with the main character, Paul Atreides, falling in love with a Fremen woman, Chani, played by Zendaya. As the two cultures of these two people clash and meet, all the while Paul ingratiates himself with the Fremen culture while teaching them new and exciting things about his own culture. While this work is going on, you get to follow the relationship between these two powerful people and see the depths of their love that gets the entire Dune saga moving forward in the future.

1. A Breathtaking Music Score

In Dune: Part One, the music score for the movie was so good and well-placed throughout and you can expect more of that in Part Two. It received the Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, and it was well deserved. After viewing the trailer for Dune: Part Two, it is very easy to see that this award could very well appear again in Hans Zimmer’s future. He usually makes outstanding scores for movies, and he did not let us down in Dune: Part One. This is one of the things I look forward to the most out of Dune: Part Two and it is something you can expect to not be disappointed in. In a line of work where music makes or breaks a film, Dune’s reputation it has begun should stay steady throughout Dune: Part Two.

All of these things feed into the expectations and excitement offered by the Dune franchise both for fans of the novels and the new fans of the movies. While Dune: Part Two has had another delay, it will be everything we expect and more! Dune: Part Two is set to release on March 15, 2024.
