5 Interesting Facts About Hyperion

Reports have been pouring in claiming Henry Cavill, known for his role as Superman in the DC Universe and Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher, may be playing Marvel’s Hyperion. The rumors suggest that Cavill’s big “F—YOU” to Warner Brothers comes just in time for Hyperion to join Marvel’s lineup for Loki Season 2. In response to “Hyperion” trending on Twitter for the past few days, here are five interesting facts about the superhero:
He Is Marvel’s “Superman”
Hyperion, also known by his human name Marcus Milton, was sent to Earth by a group of dying Eternals before the destruction of his planet. Similarly to Superman, he draws his power from solar energy.

He’s An Avenger
While trying to prevent the destruction of his reality, Hyperion was left in the void his destroyed universe once occupied until a group of scientists known as A.I.M pulled him to their reality. According to Avengers Volume 5 #4, he spent most of his time in captivity until he was freed by the Avengers, who offered him a place in their ranks. Specifically, Hyperion has become a good friend of Thor, whom he calls “brother.”
He Began As A Villain
Hyperion was actually a villain in his first appearance. When the Grandmaster needed his own team to battle the Avengers, he created the Squadron Sinister from the Microverse. They were initially created as a parody of the Justice League. Luckily, creator Roy Thomas and penciler John Buscema created an alternate, heroic version of the Squadron Sinister called the Squadron Supreme.
There Are Many Versions Of Hyperion

The superhero has been reimagined several times throughout the history of the comics. Hyperion joins the Avengers in his most recent Marvel appearance in Jonathan Hickman’s The Avengers vol. 5 #1 (Dec. 2012). However, Marvel Comic fans have also met King Hyperion (a psychotic monster, the main antagonist of the first story arc of the Exiles series and an insane alternate version of Hyperion), or Supreme Power Hyperion (a complicated and conflicted figure who discovers the depths of a government’s corruption and the existence of other heroes similar to himself), and Gruenwald’s Hyperion (where the Squadron Supreme was dominated by the alien Overmind, who used them to turn the United States into a fascist nation and conquer the planet).
Hyperion Has Several Heroic Abilities
As an Eternal, Hyperion possesses superhuman strength, stamina, speed, durability, flight, and “atomic vision.” Earth-712’s version of Hyperion also possesses the ability to use cosmic energy to augment his life force, granting him great longevity and regenerative abilities. However, most alternate Hyperions’ powers diminish when exposed to “argonite radiation.”
With all his experience with the alternate universes, it will be interesting to see how Hyperion might play into the chaos of the MCU’s multiverse. Here’s to hoping he’s one of the good guys! Otherwise, Loki might be in for some problems more significant than Kang.
