While I have covered which books, shows, and movies you should enjoy this spooky season, I haven’t yet covered which songs make the best additions to your playlists! The following songs will help to put you in the spooky season vibe while also giving you something great to jam out to. All of these songs are currently available on Spotify.

10. “Into The Unknown” - ‘Over The Garden Wall’ Soundtrack

Over The Garden Wall

Over the Garden Wall is a mini-series that originally aired on Cartoon Network in 2014. The series had quite a few fun songs that I have on my spooky season playlist, but this is easily the best in the show.

9. “Haunted Heart” - Christina Aguilera

Addams Family

This song was featured in the 2019 animated version of The Addams Family. It is hauntingly beautiful and is played while Morticia is getting ready for her wedding. I listen to this song year-round, but it is especially great during spooky season.

8. “Life After Salem” - Lil Nas X

I’m sure many people are surprised to see Lil Nas X on this list, but this song was made for spooky season playlists! The song was featured on his 2021 debut album Montero and is easily one of the best songs on it. It has an overall eerie vibe and the music video feels like a mini horror film.

7. “Bad Moon Rising” - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Sabrina

This song was originally released in 1969 but began to gain popularity with younger audiences when it was featured in Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The song has more of an upbeat vibe to it, but it still fits perfectly this time of year.

6. “Runaway” - AURORA

This is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs on this list. The song gained popularity on social media like TikTok and Instagram where it is typically added to SFX or POV videos. I can’t wait to see this song used in a horror series or film.

5. “Howlin’ For You” - The Black Keys

This has been a favorite song of mine for years, and it is another one that is more upbeat but still fits perfectly on your spooky season playlists. If it sounds familiar, that is because it has been used a ton in video games and TV commercials.

4. “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” - Blue Öyster Cult

The Reaper

This song was originally released in 1976, but has started to gain more popularity with younger audiences due to it being featured in films like X, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Zombieland. It has also been featured in tons of TV shows. The song is perfect for spooky season and is especially perfect if you take part in Slasher Summer

3. “Black Magic Woman” - VCTRYS

Sabrina

This song was originally released in 1970 and performed by Santana, but for this list, I am using VCTRYS’ rendition that was recorded and released in 2019 for Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

2. “Red Right Hand” - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Peaky Bliners and Ghostface

Depending on your fandom you know this song from one of two places. The song, originally released in 1994, is most notable for being the theme song for Peaky Blinders and the unintentional theme song for the Scream franchise.

1. “Master Of Puppets” - Metallica

This is one of those songs that has been very popular since it was first released in 1986, but it blew up with younger audiences when it was featured in the coolest scene to ever hit a streaming service. Netflix used the song in a pivotal moment during Stranger Things’ season four with fan favorite Eddie Munson playing it on his guitar in the Upside Down.
