A Quick Guide To The Characters In Marvel Studios ‘Werewolf By Night’
Werewolf By Night was the first of what Marvel calls a “Special Presentation.” It was a short special based on the comic of the same name. It follows the story of various monster hunters at the Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. The hunters are thrust into a deadly competition for a mysterious relic.
Jack Russell
The titular character in Werewolf By Night. He appears to be a regular human guy by day, but he turns into a werewolf by night. Even though his reputation among his fellow monster hunters is good, they know nothing of his true powers.
RELATED:
Elsa Bloodstone
The estranged daughter of Ulysses Bloodstone. She returns to Bloodstone Manor to participate in the competition, as she thinks she is the rightful heir to the Bloodstone. The monster hunters are less than kind to her at first but change their tune when they see she can take care of herself.
Man-Thing
He is referred to as Ted by Jack and is a 7-foot-tall mass of sentient vegetation. Doctor Theodore Sallis was once a man who was turned into Man-Thing, after experimental serum combined with swamp water during a car crash. In Werewolf By Night, he seems terrifying until you get to know him, and once you do, he’s a delight.
Verussa Bloodstone
The widow of acclaimed monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone, and in classic Disney fashion, is a wicked stepmother to Elsa. She is cunning and cruel and is also the true power behind the throne when her husband is not there. She is a villain who traps Jack Russell, so he turns into his werewolf self. However, right before she tries to kill Elsa, she is expired to ash, thanks to Man-Thing.
Joshua Jovan
A character created for the Special Presentation has amassed a kill count of 57. He is outgoing and has a larger-than-life personality with a long beard and his fair share of scars. He’s the first to attack during the competition and the first of Man-Thing’s victims.
Ulysses Bloodstone
Ulysses Bloodstone was a man who was born in 10,000 BCE. After a meteor fragment became embedded in his chest, he was granted immortality. He went on to travel the world and became a renowned monster slayer.
Liorn
While he is the most enthusiastic of the bunch, he makes the mistake of going after Elsa instead of the monster. This turns fatal, and he is the first one of the hunters to die. However, he fares well in a melee fight and even is able to take down some of his fellow hunters.
Azarel
One of the special’s showiest monster hunters. Azarel has a confirmed 37 kills. We see her a little bit in the beginning, but she doesn’t appear again until the end, when she shows that she can handle a fight. However, she meets her demise here and gets her throat slit and a sword to the skull.
Barasso
Another original creation for the special; he doesn’t have much of a part in it. He has contempt for Elsa and is angry that she’s participating in the competition. During the event, he picks up a sword to fight Elsa but then meets his end with a swipe to the neck.
