Will Smith Addresses 'The Slap' In A New YouTube Video

Will Smith Slaps Chris Rock at 2022 Oscars

On Friday, Will Smith addressed the altercation between him and Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. During the roughly six-minute video, Will Smith answered several lingering questions that have been on people’s minds. The first question pertained to why he did not apologize to Chris Rock during his acceptance speech for Best Actor. Smith stated that at that point everything was all fuzzy.  He indicated that he has reached out to Chris Rock but has heard that Rock is not ready to talk to him. In the video, Smith also openly apologized for the incident at the Oscars including an apology to Chris Rock’s mother. In closing, he stated that he is committed to working on himself and that if “you are able to hang on, I Promise we’ll be able to be friends again.”

This video stems from an incident where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at the 2022 Oscars after Rock made a joke about Will Smith’s Wife Jada Pinkett Smith. After the slap, Smith would go on to win Best Actor for his role in the film King Richard.  Smith had said very little following the ceremony until this video.
