The Sandman episode 2 reaction

Episode two of Netflix’s The Sandman had us in tears and fear! The exposition continues to build as the episode opens with Dream walking through the remnants of his old castle. Lucienne the Royal Librarian explains to Dream how worlds began to fade into one another, resulting in the library disappearing. She explains that she never left because she never felt abandoned and believed he would eventually return. Dream needs to get his tools back, specifically his sand, helm, and ruby. However, Ethel Cripps stole them when she escaped from Roderick Burgess. To retrieve the tools, Dream needs to get stronger by absorbing something he has created. Dream’s tools turn out to be Buffalo, New York where an aged Ethel has become a recluse. Ethel is greeted by Corinthian (who was previously a nightmare but is no longer under Dream’s control). He proposes an allegiance between the two of them to which Ethel agrees until later in the episode when Corinthian tries to cut out Ethel’s eyes until she transports him to Dream’s realm.

Dream and Lucienne locate biblical brothers Cain and Abel and their gargoyle, Gregory, who started out as a nightmare. In a heart-wrenching moment, Dream absorbs the adorable creature. This breaks Abel’s (and the audience’s) heart, and Cain takes out his anger by thrusting a pitch-fork into the stomach of his brother, killing him. The episode ends with Corinthian returning to The Dreaming as a result of Ethel’s amulet, but he leaves the realm as quickly as he entered with full intention to not be ruled by Dream again. The episode was packed with more pieces of exposition and beckons audience members to want more!
