‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Episode 3 Spoiler-Free Review
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 3 EPISODES 1 AND 2
The newest episode of The Mandalorian is here, and it has left us with a lot to process! Its new structure also brings the opportunity for the show to evolve and add nuances to the storyline.
Last week’s episode gave us our first glimpse of Mandalore after the Night of a Thousand Tears in live-action. Not only did we discover the horrors that are hiding within the ruins of the planet, but we also got a chance to see both Bo-Katan finally wielding the Darksaber. We finally saw the mystical Living Waters within the Mines of Mandalore that have been discussed since Season 1. In the final moments, we were shocked to discover that there is a mythosaur living within the depths of the Living Waters!
This week, the episode picks up seconds after the ending of the last episode. Bo-Katan is in shock at seeing the mythosaur and quickly realizes that Din Djarin had been unconscious and did not see the creature. She chooses to keep this information to herself and explains that the bombs dropped by the Epire must have broken through the floor of the mines and exposed what was hiding underneath. It makes us wonder if the mythosaur has always lived within the Living Waters and had been forgotten by time. As soon as the group leaves Mandalore, they are attacked by a squadron of TIE Interceptors who have been sent by an unknown enemy. The opening of the episode was reminiscent of the Star Wars content many of us grew up with as it was filled with aerial maneuvers, close calls, and jaw-dropping cinematography.

The structuring of this episode was fascinating. Rather than focusing on Din Djarin and Grogu, the majority of the episode is actually set in the New Republic’s Coruscant and introduces us to the Amnesty Program. This is apparently a program they are running that helps to reintegrate former Imperial workers into the New Republic. Doctor Pershing is featured in the remainder of the episode, and the many twists and turns will keep your head spinning long after the end of the episode.
The pacing of this episode was slower than what we are used to with The Mandalorian, but it worked really well. The structuring allows the writers to create a complex story that can easily last for many seasons to come without becoming stale. Favreau told us that there is no end in sight for this series, and the new story structure, the New Republic’s amnesty program, and the plot twists further cement this fact. The stakes are higher than ever before, and it feels like we are ramping up for a truly fascinating season!
New episodes of The Mandalorian are available to stream Wednesdays on Disney+.
