'The Bad Batch' Season 3 Episode 6-7 "Infiltration” & ”Extraction" Spoiler-Free Review
This week, fans were treated to two episodes of The Bad Batch. They are appropriately titled "Infiltration" and "Extraction" and feature the returning threat of the Empire and many clones.
We see the return of Captain Rex. He and his squadron are back on Coruscant, accompanying two senators who would like to finally make peace with each other. Of course, things never go as planned, and the meeting is interrupted by an explosion caused by a "shadow" trooper. Rex mentions he has encountered these before, and we learn later that they are a special ops group that Hemlock created. They succeed in capturing the clone and find out who he is after, and it's the clone the Empire has been after all season. This leads to him calling Hunter and Echo. All of them make their way to Rex's hideout where they are briefed on the situation. Before Echo leaves, he gives Omega a bow, which appears to be the one seen on the poster. Omega also tells the clones what they were doing on Tantiss, and how Hemlock was looking for their ‘M-count’. Another shadow clone discovers their location, and that they have Omega. He contacts the Empire, and they make their way to the hideout. They try to stop Clone Force 99 and Rex at every turn but are unsuccessful. They confront them at the extraction point, where Rex is greeted by a familiar face, who is now fighting for the other side. He reasons with him, and they are surprisingly let go without a fight, but we know this won't be the last time we see them.

Even though this is the final season, I appreciate that we are seeing a continuation of the stories of other clones, especially Rex. He has always loved and appreciated his brothers, so the confrontation at the end was quite sad. He is also on a crusade to save his remaining brothers from the Empire. Hopefully, we see him succeed with this plan, as the cloned were a vital part of the Republic for so long, and then eventually tossed aside. The Empire no longer cares about them, besides their DNA for Project Necromancer. They deserve better, and Rex could give that to them.
The shadow troopers are interesting and seem to be more dangerous than the others we've seen working for the Empire so far. At one point, Crosshair reveals that he was being considered for the program, but it didn't work out due to his defective nature. This won't be the last time we will see this particular one either, and it will.be interesting to see if it could be a familiar clone, or if it turns out to be a Marrok situation, where it's a nobody. As much as I am awaiting Tech's return (call it denial), I would rather have him stay dead than return in the form of an Empire soldier, because that would be a fate worse than death.
The best scene comes at the end of episode 7, where both groups confront each other. The music that plays sets the scene so well, and the lighting of the scene is absolutely perfect.
We're only seven episodes in, but I doubt that'll be the last time we see a scene as cool as this. Both episodes were exciting, and seeing Omega safe for now was great. Let's hope it lasts.
