'The Bad Batch' Season 3 Episode 10-11 "Identity Crisis"/"Point Of No Return" Spoiler-Free Review
Well folks, after a few weeks of relatively tame, low-stakes episodes, we are back to fast-paced, emotion-filled episodes. This week, we were once again treated to two episodes, Identity Crisis and Point Of No Return, and they are a doozy.
Identity Crisis takes a step back from The Bad Batch and focuses on Emerie Karr. Hemlock promotes her to take point on Project Necromancer. A side note, I hope Hemlock gets what’s coming to him by the end of the season because he deserves it. He has been a great villain this season, but I want to see him die by the end. Emerie discovers that children with high M-Counts are being used to help further the project. The problem is, that she is not supposed to to treat them like children, and instead as specimens. The children don't want to be there and want to go home. One child even tries to escape, where he is stunned by some troopers, much to Emerie’s protests. Emerie even accompanies some clones to pick up a new child, who a very familiar bounty hunter brought in. She is shocked at how young the child is. This is where you can sort of see her shift, and wonder if she is doing the right thing. We find out she kept Omega’s homemade Lula doll and gives it to one of the children to comfort them.

Point Of No Return brings us back to Pabu, under upsetting circumstances. CX-2, who is working for Hemlock to retrieve Omega, has managed to get the coordinates of Pabu. Fans have been convinced for a while that CX-2 is Tech, and this episode helps further that theory. As much as I would love Tech to be back, I feel like being a pawn of the Empire would be a fate worse than death. He was given information by a Trandoshan about a pirate who knew where Omega was. He was able to sneak onto the ship and retrieve the data. After going through the encryption, they successfully located Pabu and Omega. On Pabu, the bad batch is going about their business, until everything changes when the Marauder is blown up, and Wrecker is hurt Yes, another iconic Star Wars ship was lost to the Empire. The Empire descends on Pabu and starts terrorizing everyone and everything to get what they want. Crosshair and Omega hide, but Omega also comes up with a plan. Crosshair is not a fan but goes along with it anyway. It’s not the outcome we wanted, but Omega’s face at the end gives me hope for her future.
We all know the Empire is evil. They have killed and displaced countless people throughout their rule, but what we saw in Identity Crisis was especially evil. The Empire has willingly kidnapped children to help them further Project Necromancer. It’s so sad that these children are never going to know what it's like to be a child, as they are not supposed to be treated like such. Hemlock has said to treat them as nothing more than specimens. These children haven’t done anything wrong, besides having high M-Counts, so it feels especially sinister that they are now prisoners of the Empire. Emerie was once a child of the Empire and knows what it’s like, so let’s hope she changes her ways and rescues these children out of the Empire’s grasp.
It was great to see Omega take control of her autonomy, and do what needed to be done. She may be a child, but she is stronger than many children we have seen thus far. The music in these two episodes was by far some of the best, especially during the final moments of each scene, and added to the pain of suffering of what we just watched. Even though it looks bleak now, hopefully, our clones get the happy ending they so deserve.
