'History Of The World Part II' Minor Spoiler Review
It took more than 40 years, but fans of Mel Brooks’ classic film History of the World Part I finally got a part II! At the end of the original film, fans were told that History of the World Part II was coming soon, but this was apparently meant to be a joke Brooks was playing on his fans.
Thankfully a group of comedians including Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen, Nick Kroll, and Wanda Sykes was able to convince the 96-year-old legendary director and comedian to come back and give fans the part 2 he had originally promised, and the result is pure comedy gold!

The 4-night, 8-episode event premiered on Hulu to fantastic reviews from fans and critics alike. The event focuses on multiple different stories including The Civil War, The Russian Revolution, Shirley Chisholm, and The Story of Jesus. Each of these main stories features hilarious takes on the historical stories including Anastasia being an influencer, Jesus and his disciples as the Beatles, and Shirley Chisholm being a sitcom. Woven throughout these stories are small sketches that cover events such as the creation of the Kama Sutra, Sigmund Freud, and Alexander Graham Bell. Mel Brooks narrates, and the cast includes Johnny Knoxville, Wanda Sykes, Nick Kroll, Dove Cameron, Taika Waititi, and Jack Black just to name a few. Like History of the World Part I, there are a few perfectly placed musical numbers including one done by Jack Black’s Joseph Stalin.
The original film starred Mel Brooks in each skit and featured the talents of Gregory Hines, Madeline Khan, and Cloris Leachman among others. The film focused on historical moments such as The Old Testament, The French Revolution, and The Roman Empire. While Brooks never intended for there to be a sequel, he still teased that in History of the World Part II fans would see Hitler on Ice and Jews in Space. At the beginning of the 4-night event, Brooks promises that there will be “no repeated material”, but fans do get Hitler on Ice and a glimpse of Jews in Space which “will be in History of the World Part II Season 2”.
This was the perfect follow-up to Brooks’ classic as it included his legendary brand of humor and even made fun of some of his other projects. Choosing to have a cast of both legendary and newer actors and comedians created a perfect balance of comedy. You will be laughing until your sides hurt and rushing to Google to see which of the historical “facts” are true and which were created for comedic reasons. This is the perfect thing to watch when you need a quick pick-me-up because each episode runs roughly 30 minutes. I would highly recommend that every comedy fan run to Hulu to check out this special! It was also teased that there will be a season two so who knows, maybe we will get a History of the World Part II Season 2. Keeping my fingers crossed that we won’t have to wait another 40 years though!
History of the World Part I and II are available to stream on Hulu!
