WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE BAD BATCH SEASON 2, EPISODE 11

Star Wars may be branching out into the horror genre, or at least it felt like it with this week's episode of The Bad Batch. The episode gave off major Alien vibes with the return of a creature that fans may be familiar with. However, the episode also dealt with some of the aftermaths of Kamino as well, and we got to see the Empire do what they do best in taking people from their homes.

In the beginning, we saw a clone commando walking around a ship in the dark being stalked by a mysterious creature, and eventually meeting his demise. After a brief cut to Royce Hemlock interrogating the Kaminoan scientist Nala Se, we switched to the Bad Batch, who was on a call with Cid. They were not happy with being stranded in the last couple of episodes. Of course, Cid gave them another job to find what was on a downed ship, reluctantly agreeing to a 50% cut of the share. Once they arrived, they discovered a Zillo Beast feeding on electrical energy and growing rapidly. The creature got out, and Hunter and Wrecker take the Marauder to hunt it down before it reached the nearby village. The Empire got wind of this and sent in ships not to destroy the creature, but to capture it.

Meanwhile, Omega and Tech continued to investigate the ship for more information on the Zillo beast. Tech discovered that Palpatine wanted the beast’s genetic materials in order to use its impenetrable armor for weapons. At the end of the episode, we returned to Mount Tantiss where Hemlock met with the former Kaminoan Prime Minister Lama Su. Lama Su explained that Omega is the key to motivating Nala Se to return to her research.

The season has had many filler episodes, but that’s not a bad thing. This episode was able to advance the plot a bit more and raised the stakes for the Bad Batch as the Empire would now be after Omega. It was also interesting when Tech pointed out that the Empire did not destroy Kamino because they wanted to end cloning but rather to gain control of the technology. Kamino was essentially a loose end for them, and if they didn’t do something about it, someone else could have come in and used it for their own purposes.

Throughout the seven seasons of The Clone Wars, we got to see the effects the war left on communities. After the Empire took over, they didn’t stop wreaking havoc on these communities. In the end, the villagers who witnessed the Zillo Beast were loaded into Imperial ships. Once again, they were taken from their homes, just like so many were during the Clone Wars.

This episode will lead nicely into the latter half of the season. The Batch seemed to be growing tired of Cid, especially when she did not come to their aid. It will be interesting to see if they end up ditching her, and what happens if they do. They now have to worry more about Omega possibly being taken by the Empire as well. Meanwhile, the mystery surrounding the Empire’s current research is unraveling.

New episodes of The Bad Batch are released every Wednesday on Disney+.
