Mark Hamill's Loving Reaction To A Father Using The Force On His Child

Back in 2011, there was a Volkswagen commercial during the Super Bowl, where a young boy dressed in a Darth Vader suit tried to use the Force on various items in his house as well as to mind trick the family dog with little success. Just when he was about to give up, his father helped lift his self-esteem.

As any director will tell you, working with animals or little children can be quite challenging, but also very rewarding, if it succeeds. A few days ago a father released a video on twitter, that might not be as professionally produced as the Volkswagen commercial, but it was at least as cute. Using his legs the man moves his child’s rolling highchair towards himself and then away from him several times, pretending to do Force pulls and Force pushes. The toddler obviously likes this, while the dog in the background seems a little puzzled. The original Tweet seemed to have been deleted since then, but not before the viral video has been reposted and shared all over.

The video caught the attention of Mark Hamill, who reacted in a funny and appreciative way.

Anyone who follows Mark Hamill on Twitter knows that he is one of the nicest guys on social media, mostly sending out or retweeting positive and uplifting comments. He is pretty active as well, with often several tweets per day usually about his current and past projects. Many, but not all of his messages are related to Star Wars one way or the other. He also talks about his work as a voice actor, sends out comments about news of the world, or even scientific sensations, like when he compared the recent discovery of a thousand-year-old claw of an extinct bird to that of a rancor.

Hamill seems compose all his tweets himself, unlike many other celebrities, who often use a team of public relations professionals to handle their social media presence for them. The actor also likes to communicate directly with fans. If someone posts something creative, be it a picture, a costume, or something like this father’s video, chances are that Hamill will answer it or at least send out a like. You might even get a birthday shout out for yourself or your loved ones, if you ask nicely and creatively. He is quick to tell a back story or debunk a rumor if someone mentions him in a picture from the sets of the original trilogy or some publicity photos that were taken at that time, no matter how embarrassing these photos might be nowadays.

On the other hand, Hamill has never held back his political opinions. If he sees something he does not like, he will comment on it, no matter how much heat it might give him.

Hamill has been on Twitter since 2011 and it was roughly around this time that he finally started to accept and to embrace the fact that he will always be Luke Skywalker, no matter his age. For quite some time after the release of Return of the Jedi he has shied away from Star Wars and its fans, rarely appearing at conventions or signing autographs, as if he tried to leave his past behind, and did not appreciate the impact his performance had on so many people around the world. Good thing he later changed his mind. Now Hamill is a beloved guest and sought out host at Star Wars Celebrations who cleverly recollecting stories and anecdotes from “a long time ago”, interacting with attendees, and signing autographs until the last fan is satisfied.

In a time where social media is so often (mis)used for pure self-promotion. It is good to have someone like Mark Hamill, who still both feet on the ground and is never afraid to interact with his fans and to appreciate a father, who is having some Force-fun with his child.
