With A Week Left Of Filming, Live-Action Production Of 'Lilo & Stitch' Shut Down
The strike action for the actors of the union SAG-AFTRA has begun, with productions being halted. One such production is the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, which is understood to only have had a week left of filming to go. With disruption having already occurred within Hollywood owing to the writers of the union WGA striking since May, the actors joining the strike action bring further disruption to the productions of studios that are part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. For Lilo & Stitch, production avoided being halted in May as scripts were already written.
The strikes seem likely to continue for some time, with the AMPTP not providing a fair deal during the negotiations with both SAG-AFTRA and the WGA. Both unions are after fairer residuals and protection against the abuse of artificial intelligence within the industry. The concerns about artificial intelligence might be denied by the AMPTP, but without those protections in place, there would be little legal ground on which an actor or writer could stand.
Filming in Hawaii with a cast that includes Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, Chris Sanders, Zach Galifianakis, and Billy Magnussen, Lilo & Stitch will retell the story of how runaway genetic experiment Stitch goes from a havoc-wreaking menace to fitting in with the Hawaiian community through their values of loyalty and friendship.
