Will We See Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ Trailer Drop At The Super Bowl?
The fan campaign to release the “Snyder Cut” of 2017’s Justice League got a victory last year when it was announced that Snyder’s vision would come to life on HBO Max this year. While it was initially reported to be a miniseries, it has since been confirmed to be a full-length feature film instead. The virtual convention DC FanDome premiered a sizzle reel trailer last August to build up some hype. Some were won over, and some (admittedly myself included) were underwhelmed. The trailer showed that there was commitment to bring this cut to the screen.
So then why have we had very little marketing since then? Snyder himself has shared images here and there, but there has not been much heavy-lifting from Warner Bros. and HBO Max to advertise this cut, which is premiering relatively soon on March 18. The thing about this release date is that it is just a day before Marvel’s Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres. That show comes out on a Friday, while Snyder’s cut comes out on a Thursday, which feels like more of a work day, depending on the viewer. Even if one loves both DC and Marvel, the former needs at least as much advertising as the latter.
A good way to remind audiences that Snyder’s Justice League is coming would be to release another trailer during the Super Bowl this coming Sunday. It may seem like a longshot, a small chance. However, it really does feel like there needs to be something to reignite the hype for this film that has felt quiet for a while. We should have our answer come Sunday, and then we’ll have to see if there is much marketing afterward.
