"Who Will Be Queen?" Darrington Press Releases Original Tabletop Board Game 'Queen By Midnight'
Recipient of Gaming Trend’s “Best of Gen Con” Award, Queen by Midnight is the ultimate battle-royale deckbuilding game featuring dueling princesses and a table presence you won’t see anywhere else!
LOS ANGELES, August 22, 2023 – Today Darrington Press, Critical Role’s publishing division, officially released the highly-anticipated Queen by Midnight, a battle-royale deckbuilding boardgame of guile, deception, and brawn, available online at Critical Role shops (US, UK, CA, AU, and EU), in person at Darrington Press Guild stores, and coming shortly to other friendly local game stores.
Created and designed by Critical Role producer Kyle Shire, and first made available at Gen Con 2023 (where it sold out within 15 minutes each day), Queen by Midnight is the ultimate battle royale deckbuilding game that puts you in the role of one of six powerful princesses in a magical free-for-all vying to become the new Queen of the Midnight Court. Featuring an intricate Clocktower that spins to face each player on their turn, keeps track of the rounds, presents new cards to buy, and even acts as a dice roller, Queen by Midnight brings game night to a whole new level!
RELATED:
Over the course of the game, players take turns buying abilities, casting spells, laying traps, and overpowering their foes with deadly force. When the Clock strikes Midnight, the game is over. If at any point only one player remains, they are the winner! If the game goes to Midnight, then the player with the most Clout plus Health wins!
“Three years ago, this game was nothing more than a bunch of spreadsheets, documents, and fairly crude prototype materials. It is wonderfully surreal to not only see this game on shelves, but for it to also be the best possible version of itself while it sits on those shelves,” said Kyle Shire. “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine this. I am deeply honored and I hope it brings people a lot of joy.”
Whether you’re cunning, ruthless, or forbidding, you must use your Princess’ unique tactics to combat, cast, and scheme your way into succession!
GAME LORE
The Midnight Queen is dead. As her kingdom weeps, the issue of her succession is paramount. To the shock of the Realm, the Queen’s dying wish was to invoke the Rule By Midnight: a 24-hour trial of combat and guile, where the Princesses of Twelvefold are summoned to Court to battle one another.
CONTENTS
The centerpiece of this game is a stunning Clocktower that tracks turns, offers cards to buy, and rolls your dice! It spins to face each player on their turn. Nearly 200 cards are themed to your specific Princess, with an additional 75 Bazaar cards available to customize your deck. Tokens, trackers, boards, and other cards make gameplay easy to track even when things are getting heated.
