With several timelines and alternate universes going on in the MCU, the usually complex character of the half-vampire, half-human Blade seems comparatively simple. However the same can not be said for the production of the movie that shares the character’s title. Fans are excited, as for far Blade’s only presence in the MCU has been a single off-screen line in a post-credits scene in The Eternals.

However, with increasing production trouble, fans are not the only ones who are frustrated with the process. Star Mahershala Ali, will be playing the titular character. Both previous directors, Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange are no longer with the project. Previous writer’s strikes, as well as disagreements between Ali and many of Marvel’s higher-ups, have all played roles in the production delays of the movie, which was first announced in 2023.

Other projects that had temporary stoppages, Deadpool & Wolverine and Thunderbolts have both also had starts and stops, but have kept most of their staff involved, while Blade has fired talent including Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre.

The character of Blade, and particularly the trilogy of movies starring Wesley Snipes, were a major part of Kevin Feige’s inspiration to get into superhero movies and were a large part of the reason several B-list characters play major roles within the MCU early on.
