We May Find Out What Happened To Barriss Offee In 'The Bad Batch'

One of the most interesting conflicts of the critically acclaimed The Clone Wars TV show was the friendship and eventual conflict and betrayal between Barriss Offee, Jedi Padawan of Luminara Unduli, and Ahsoka Tano, Jedi Padawn of Anaking Skywalker. They have a strong friendship before Barriss becomes disillusioned with the Jedi Order (big shock) and straight up turns to the dark side, going so far as to actually bomb the Jedi Temple and frame Ahsoka for it, which leads the Jedi Council to almost expel Ahsoka for it. She later leaves even though she's found innocent, because she's disillusioned with the Jedi Order, which doesn't help Anakin when he starts getting disillusioned with the Jedi Order, which is one of the tools Palpatine uses to turn Anakin to the dark side and become Darth Vader, which leads to the original trilogy, which leads to the sequel trilogy where we find Luke drinking green milk out of a space cow, after becoming disillusioned with the whole Jedi thing...

Yeesh. It's not a sure thing that without that first spark (pun intended) that Anakin wouldn't have fallen to the dark side, but the way he sees the Council treating Ahsoka certainly doesn't help.

In any case, the viewers are never actually given a real payoff for Barriss and all of her dark side shenanigans. She is taken away by the Jedi Temple Guards with the initial plan being to have her kill herself by detonating her cell in the finale of season 5. However, Dave Filoni decided that there was still more of her story that he could tell, so left her fate beyond her arrest unknown.

Until now!

Maybe.

Outside of the Obi-Wan miniseries, the most hyped upcoming show on Disney+ is The Bad Batch, which is about five members of Clone Force 99 defecting away from the Empire and going on undoubtedly wacky mercenary missions. There is a lot of speculation that we could see Barriss reappear in the show. Filoni did say that he had more plans for the character, and this would be the perfect opportunity to bring her back. The Empire wouldn't waste a powerful fallen Jedi, and she might show up as an Imperial Inquisitor. There were initial predictions that she would appear in the Star Wars Rebels show in this capacity, or that she would be the main antagonist Inquisitor in Jedi: Fallen Order, but neither ended up being true.

Frankly, if she's not used in some capacity, it would likely be a wasted opportunity. The show takes place not long after Revenge of the Sith, and as such, there will likely still be a lot of remnants of the fallen Republic in the show, and everybody would certainly still remember the Jedi. Barriss' time in Jedi Jail would have undoubtedly made her more hostile to the Jedi, and driven her further down the path of the dark side.

It's likely that if she appears again, then we'll see her interact with Ahsoka once more, bringing that particular arc full circle. Given that it's Star Wars and that there are certain patterns when it comes to a final big fight, it could end with Barriss and Ahsoka getting into one last big lightsaber fight, where it will appear that Barriss has the upper hand, but Ahsoka will pull victory from the jaws of defeat, and with a slash, cut Barriss down. She'd then cradle her fallen opponent, who is slowly fading. They'd reminisce about the good days when they both believed in what the Jedi stood for before taking their separate paths. Then she'd take her last breath as Ahsoka tells her that she forgives her and doesn't hold any ill will against her former friend.

I don't know. Just a thought. It's not even confirmed that she'll make an appearance. If she does, however, she'll likely be highly dangerous, and won't go down without a fight.
