Warner Bros. Shifts Around Release Schedule, Reveals April 2025 Release for Jason Momoa's 'Minecraft'
The Minecraft movie, based on the popular video game of the same name, will get its theatrical release on April 4, 2025, according to Warner Bros.
The film is set to star Jason Momoa and will be directed by Jared Hess of Napoleon Dynamite fame. Mojang Studios, which makes the game, will contribute two producers to the movie version, Lydia Winters and Vu Bui. Warner is cooperating with Legendary Pictures on the movie.

Warner Bros. also made several other announcements. Jason Momoa’s other big franchise, Aquaman, was supposed to release its second installment on Christmas day; now, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released on December 20, 2023. The Christmas day slot is being given to The Color Purple. It is based on the Broadway musical, which is based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer prize-winning 1982 novel of the same name. Blitz Bazawule will direct, and it is produced by Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones, Oprah Winfrey, and Scott Sanders.
Also, The Wise Guys, directed by Barry Levinson and starring Robert De Niro, Debra Messing, and Katherine Narducci, will be released on February 2, 2024. That date was originally reserved for Toto, the animated Wizard of Oz adaptation, which has been dropped from the schedule.
