Amandla Stenberg Has Been Cast In A Leading Role For 'Star Wars: Acolyte'

Amidst the heap of Marvel, Tolkien, and Avatar news from San Diego Comic-Con, fans were treated to a surprising piece of information about one of the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ show The Acolyte

This past Friday, Amanda Stenberg revealed through Instagram that they were cast in The Acolyte. The post showed them in a Darth Maul shirt posing next to R2-D2. They were standing in front of the Star Wars costumes on display inside the exhibit hall at San Diego Comic-Con.

Stenberg was known for their role in the Hunger Games where they played Rue, Katniss Everdeen’s friend among the youths forced to fight for survival and fame. Amandla Sternberg has also appeared in the theatrical release of Dear Evan Hansen, The Hate U Give. Interestingly, they had also made an appearance on an episode of Drunk History on Comedy Central. They have a wide range of talent and will surely make an excellent Sith apprentice.

Not much has been revealed about The Acolyte. The show is set set approximately 100 years prior to the prequel trilogy during the “Age of Enlightenment” or the High Republic Era, focusing on the dark side of the Force. The High Republic has been a major focus of Lucasfilm Publishing and has just recently completed its first phase with the second phase coming on the horizon.

There have been reports about the return of certain Legends characters in the upcoming show. According to rumors, famous Sith Darth Revan, Darth Bane, and Darth Nihilus are slated to return or factor into the story of The Acolyte somehow. Revan, Bane, and Nihilus are interesting picks for a show that claims to take place 100 years prior to the events of the prequel trilogy. After all, these dark lords lived well over 3,000 years prior. No word has been released about their specific roles,but fans are sure to be excited to see the most famous Sith Lords in Star Wars history return to canon after the Disney acquisition. 

The Acolyte is slated for release on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
