Which Other Star Wars Characters Deserve Their Own Show?
2022 is shaping up to be the biggest live-action year in Star Wars history. Aside from the ongoing The Book of Boba Fett and season 3 of The Mandalorian – expected around Christmas, this year will also see the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi as well as Andor, if all goes according to plan.
Lucasfilm’s pipeline is filled with even more projects for Disney+. Ahsoka and Acolyte will probably premiere in 2023. There is also Lando (mini)series even further down the road. Beyond that, the creative minds at Lucasfilm are surely already hard at work to plan even more series for Disney+. Today, we are looking at 10+ characters that deserve their own show on the streaming platform.

Thrawn And Ezra Bridger
Like The Book of Boba Fett, the Ahsoka series will be another spin-off of The Mandalorian. The former Jedi and Sabine Wren will be on the lookout for Kanan Jarrus’ Padawan and the Imperial Grand-Admiral who vanished into the Unknown Regions shortly before the events of A New Hope.
It is safe to assume that they will find them both. It is also no big stretch to imagine a series for the two enemies and probably involuntarily allies. Like The Book of Boba Fett, the Thrawn/Bridger series could be told in two timelines, one taking place after Ahsoka has found them, and the other being flashbacks detailing the events after the Purrgils took them away.
Bo-Katan Kryze
Basically, it is a no-brainer that the female Mandalorian leader who was already featured in The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Mandalorian would have her own show. Taking place after the events of season 3 of The Mandalorian, the series could focus on her struggle to either retake or to rebuild Mandalore after the Great Purge.
Qi’ra (with Maul, Han Solo and Chewbacca)
Around the time of the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story there were rumors that both Alden Ehrenreich and Emilia Clark had contracts with Lucasfilm for more than one movie. After the limited success of Solo, it is doubtful that Solo 2 will ever happen, but Q’ira recently resurfaced in comic form as the new leader of Crimson Dawn, the crime syndicate that was formerly led by Maul.
A series focusing around Solo’s former girlfriend or Crimson Dawn as a whole could also feature the former Zabrak Sith. There is also no reason why she could not get in contact with Han and Chewie again.
Doctor Aphra
The rogue archaeologist with a big ego has become a fan favorite since her debut in comic form back in 2015. Current storylines have her still going strong in spite of all the chaos and destruction she has caused. If the story takes place during the time of the original trilogy, the series could also include some Empire action (and maybe even a run-in with Darth Vader) and some tie-ins with events from A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.
Fennec Shand
Ming-Na Wen’s bounty hunter/assassin is currently also winning hearts left and right. After appearing in The Bad Batch, The Mandalorian and, of course, The Book of Boba Fett, her own show would be another entry in the so-called Mando-verse. The series could be a combination of bounty-hunt-of-the-week and an overarching story taking place either before or after she met Boba Fett.
Revan
Rumors of Lucasfilm considering stories taking place thousands of years before the Skywalker saga have been floating around at least since Benioff and Weiss have announced plans of their own Star Wars trilogy. This trilogy, as we now know, will probably never happen. However, sooner or later there will be a Star Wars show taking place in the Old Republic era, and the Jedi-later-Sith-then-Jedi again would make a great protagonist for such a series. Like Thrawn, the basic tentpoles of Revan’s character and his backstory should be left in place, and the show could expand from there to tell stories beyond what was presented in video games, books and comics.
Luke Skywalker
With the end of season 2 of The Mandalorian, Grogu’s future is now very much “in motion.” Lucasfilm would be foolish not to bring their cutest asset back into the spotlight, together with his new master. On the other hand, Luke Skywalker’s adventures after the Battle of Endor are still more or less uncovered ground, so a series showing the Jedi on his way to rebuild the Jedi Order and taking care of Grogu (and possibly even Ben Skywalker) offers a great potential. There is, of course, the not so small problem of the “casting” of the titular character as Lucasfilm would either have to do the show in animated form, or create a CGI/de-aged Luke Skywalker, which was fine for a small cameo, but a daunting task if this is going to be the main character of the show.
X-Wing Pilots
Admittedly not really a single character, but a show focused on a squadron of Rebel pilots in the vein of the Rogue Squadron comics and novels is on the wish list of many Star Wars fans. As a possible continuation of or maybe even a replacement for Patty Jenkin’s Rogue Squadron movie, the show could feature a lot of dogfights against the Empire, include familiar faces (like Wedge Antilles), new pilots, and maybe even tie-in with Alexander Freed’s Alphabet Squadron novels
Darth Plagueis And Darth Sidious
James Luceno’s novel on the machinations of the Sith before the events of The Phantom Menace is still one of the best stories of the Expanded Universe. It is something that deserves to be brought back into cannon. The story could span several decades and also finally provide some information on Sidious’ big contingency plan and how he survived and later returned. This would remedy some of the problems that plagued the sequel trilogy.
Maz Kanata
The little alien was set up to be the Yoda of the sequel trilogy, but like many other characters she ultimately was massively underused. Still, with a lifespan of one thousand years, she has plenty of stories to tell throughout Star Wars’ history like how she acquired Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber.
Mara Jade
Other than Thrawn, the Emperor’s Hand is one of the most popular characters of the former Expanded Universe. Of course, her story would have to be much different from the one in Legends as she obviously could never become Luke’s wife. On the other hand, the series could set her up as a kind of a dark side version of Cassian Andor, performing dirty deeds for the Empire, being more like and anti-heroine than an actual villain.
