‘Black Adam’ Toy Listing All But Confirms Major Villain
Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson is a project that has been a long time coming. It is one of five feature films promised from Warner Brothers DC Films division for 2022 release. As of right now, the film has a coveted summer blockbuster release slot. Little is known about the plot but a recent listing from McFarlane Toys (shared on Reddit’s r/DCEUleaks) may have indicated that one of Black Adam's signature villains will be making an appearance.
Johnson has been teasing for months that the hierarchy of power will shift within the DCEU after Black Adam is released and this figure could make that statement true. McFarlane Toys has announced figurines for Black Adam himself, Cyclone, Dr. Fate, and Sabbac. Sabbac is the one here that caught fans by surprise as this seemed like the type of reveal the producers would want to keep hush hush until the film is released. What the McFarlane reveal does not indicate is who has been cast in the role of the villain.

While die-hard DC fans know who Sabbac is, most general audiences may not. That leads to the question, who exactly is he? There have been two versions of the character over the years. The original character was released in 1943, and had powers similar to the Shazam family. It was the magical world that transformed him into the demonic entity known as Sabbac. When transformed, he could fly, travel at superhuman speed, and breathe fire as well as shoot fire from his hands. This version of the character started off as a human named Timothy Karnes who received his powers from the forces of the underworld: Satan, Aym, Belial, Beezlebub, Amadeus, and Creatis.
It was comic writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank that changed the character into the modern version. He was now a 50-foot mega-monster who channeled the power of the seven deadly sins of man. This version of Sabbac was under the command of Black Adam. It is currently unknown which version of the character will feature in the DCEU.
Johnson and producer Hiram Garcia have been quoted saying the film will "unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world." That does indicate that the titular character will not exactly be seen as a good guy when the film commences. Garcia also commented:
"Black Adam is edgy, right? That's gonna be a PG-13 movie where it was very much like, say, The Dark Knight, where that pushed the edges of PG-13. I think we do that very much with Black Adam. We have a very high kill count in our movie."
It is very plausible to believe the version we will be getting will be closer to the Geoff Johns’ version because of the various Justice Society of America members that are set to make appearances including Hawkman and Dr. Fate, played by Aldis Hodge and Pierce Brosnan, respectively. Whichever way you want to slice this bit of news it is all but assured that Black Adam will be filled with action and violence that is going to push fans to their limits on what to expect.
Black Adam is sure to make a splash within the DCEU. So much of what will come next for the universe will be revealed in their four films being released this year with direct ties to the main DCEU timeline. Matt Reeves’ The Batman is also releasing this year, but it will be its own standalone project not connected to the already established timeline. Johnson has been adamant that what he wants is a Black Adam showdown with Superman. Only time will tell if Johnson and fans will get their wish.
