A new hiring for Massive Entertainment brings Bernd Diemer, Creative Director of Star Wars Battlefront II (2017), to the open-world Star Wars game they are currently developing.

With his credits including Battlefield V, Horizon: Zero Dawn and the upcoming Dead Island 2, Diemer’s hiring by Ubisoft will see him help with social interactions across upcoming Ubisoft games. His statement supports the speculation that the Star Wars game is utilizing the games-as-a-service model. That Ubisoft was looking for an executive experienced in effective monetizing strategies for titles.

“I am honored to join Ubisoft and gain the opportunity to collaborate with talented global teams to shape the future of social experience in Ubisoft’s games. They’re known to be catalysts for dynamic and diverse communities, enabled by innovative features and powerful brands that allow players to come together. I am excited to partner with the group’s teams around the world to bring social experience in our games to new heights.”

Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars game is expected to get major news revealed about it at some point this year. Rumors have suggested a heavily player exploration-driven gameplay experience. Players will explore massive environments across a variety of planets, with the experience likened to No Man’s Sky.
