Twenty Years After The Original, 'Wolf Creek' Gets A Reboot
If you were to make a list of horror icons, you’d have a large list to choose from. Freddy, Jason, Michael, Chucky, Leatherface, Jigsaw… all of them have a deep impact on the larger culture. However, there is one killer that does need to be in the conversation: Mick Taylor from the Wolf Creek series.
Inspired by Australian serial killers Bradley Murdoch and Ivan “Backpack Murderer” Milat, Mick Taylor answers the question “What if Crocodile Dundee was a deranged serial killer?” The series has had its successes, garnering two films, a two-season TV series, and a pair of books. However, Mick isn’t as well known as the big guys. Played to perfection by Australian actor John Jarratt (previously the chipper host of a gardening show) his performance and especially laugh are so chilling, it gave one actress nightmares. For anyone who hasn’t seen the films, they’re well worth a look.
Plans for a third film in the series have been tossed around for years, but now it looks like they’re finally going forward, though not as expected. Instead of a straight third film, it appears we’ll be getting a legacy sequel. The film is titled Wolf Creek: Legacy. Jarratt will be returning as Mick Taylor.
So far no release date has been announced.
