Trevor Noah Bids Adieu, His 'Daily Show' Goodbye And Who Might Replace Him
Seven years after taking over the role of hosting The Daily Show from Jon Stewart in 2015, Trevor Noah hosted his final episode a few days ago on December 8th. The show featured video goodbyes from celebrities and other influential figures including Oprah, Issa Rae, Kamala Harris, Tracy Ross, Bill Gates, and Hillary Clinton.
“It doesn’t feel like seven years,” Noah said, noting the good time he had as host. The comedian stated that he wanted to focus more on other aspects of his life, such as family, friends, and live comedy tours. After a brief rest, he will begin the “Trevor Noah: Off The Record” tour. The tour starts in Atlanta on January 20th, 2023. He does, however, look back at his time hosting the show fondly. “It’s taught me to be grateful for everything that I have, that I don’t even realize I have. Grateful to the wonderful people who helped me make every single episode.”

The comedian spoke openly about how he, being from South Africa, brought an outsider perspective on America to the show. “I would never pretend to understand America, you know, in the relatively short time I think I’ve been here,” he joked.
Although he had announced this departure back in September, a new permanent host has yet to be announced for the satirical news show. The show is going to be on break until January 17th, at which point it will be taken over by a series of guest hosts. These hosts include Chelsea Handler, Kal Penn, Al Franken, Sarah Silverman, Leslie Jones, Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, John Leguizamo, Marlon Wayans and Hasan Minhaj among others. These hosts are reported to take over the show for a week each. It is unknown if guest hosting is the long-term solution, or if they will hire a new permanent host at some point in 2023.
